Wenger Confirms HUGE Injury Blow As Key Man Out For At Least 4 Weeks
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed some terrible news regarding the fitness of Laurent Koscielny with the defender not expected back for at least another month.
Koscielny has been struggling with an Achilles injury all season and aggravated the issue while away with the France squad earlier this month.
Arsene initially hinted it was a minor set-back and that the 29-year-old should be back after a few days rest. However, it appears the injury is worse than first feared and now Kos is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
Speaking at his press conference this morning, Arsene revealed that while he didn’t want to give a set deadline, he ‘hoped’ to have Koscielny available again after the next international break.
On Koscielny’s fitness, he told Arsenal.com:
I cannot give you any date because we go day-by-day with him at the moment. I hope that after the next international break he will be available again. Before that I don’t think so.
It means Kos will now miss further games against Sunderland, Burnley, Anderlecht and Swansea before the next international break with a possible comeback against Manchester United on November 22nd.
However, Wenger sounded less than certain so there is still the chance that Koscielny could be out for even longer if the injury fails to heel quickly.
This news is a huge blow as Koscielny has been sorely missed during his absence already and no doubt our defence will continue to look a shambles over the coming weeks while he’s on the sidelines.
Obviously this injury only brings the focus on the manager even more for not signing another centre-back in the summer and it still baffles me why he didn’t when he knew Koscielny’s Achilles were playing up.
But there’s not much we can do about it now and the big decision is how to cope without the Frenchman. Arsene has gone with Nacho Monreal alongside Per Mertesacker over the past two games but I’d much prefer to see Chambers in the middle with Bellerin on the right.
