Arsenal eye move to sign Como star Jacobo Ramon

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Como defender Jacobo Ramon, as per Spanish outlet AS.

Following William Saliba’s back injury, the Gunners decided to upgrade the backline by purchasing Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa this summer.

As a result, Mikel Arteta currently has the Englishman plus Ben White, Jurrien Timber, and Cristhian Mosquera as options to deploy on the right side of the defence.

However, White has continued to struggle with fitness problems in recent years, while Timber has had a few injury issues since joining from Ajax Amsterdam.

Mosquera, meanwhile, sustained an injury just before the international break. As a result, it appears Arsenal have continued to explore right-footed defenders.

AS report that the North London club are interested in signing Ramon and could make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.

However, the Gunners will have to overcome several obstacles to finalise the operation as Chelsea are also showing keen interest in him. On the other hand, Ramon joined Como from Real Madrid last year, and they hold a buyback clause.

Moreover, Los Blancos have a 50% sell-on clause and have been impressed by his recent developments. However, Ramon is currently willing to continue his development at Como under Cesc Fábregas’ guidance.

The Como star is valued at around £39m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2030. So, Fábregas’ side aren’t in any rush to sell him.

Ramon is a 6ft 5in tall centre-back. He is quick, technically sound, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is efficient in defensive contributions.

He enjoyed a promising debut campaign at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia last term, scoring twice and keeping 15 clean sheets across all competitions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for the Champions League by finishing fourth in Serie A.

This season, Ramon has continued to showcase his qualities, netting a solitary goal in six games. He is a talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in Arteta’s possession-based system.

Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
