Arsenal hold talks to sign Barcelona’s Jules Kounde

Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, as per TEAMtalk.

Since moving to Camp Nou from Sevilla back in 2022, the 27-year-old has enjoyed great success, winning three La Liga titles and a few domestic cup competitions.

Last season, the Frenchman showcased his qualities, making seven goal contributions and keeping 10 clean sheets in 47 appearances across all competitions.

However, he has found himself on the periphery this season, starting only twice in all tournaments. Still, he has secured his place in the France squad for this September/October international fixtures.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that although Kounde’s existing deal is set to run until 2030, Barcelona are prepared to cash-in on him next year to raise funds.

Intermediaries have started exploring options to find a new suitable destination for him and have held talks with Arsenal over a potential transfer. Moreover, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign him.

Bayern Munich are also in this race, but Kounde is keen on joining Chelsea, with the Blues monitoring his situation closely before making a potential swoop.

Kounde to Arsenal

The report state that Chelsea initially wanted to purchase the Frenchman back in 2022, but he decided to join the Blaugrana. Still, they haven’t given up hope of signing him.

Kounde is valued at around £51m by Transfermarkt, and Barcelona are likely to demand a big fee to sell him. He is comfortable in the right-back and centre-back positions.

The former Sevilla star is quick, technically sound, comfortable playing out from the back, good in the air and efficient in defensive contributions. He has shown glimpses of his qualities for club and country in recent years and is currently at the prime stage of his career.

Therefore, Kounde would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, Arsenal currently have Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Cristhian Mosquera and Ezri Konsa as available right-sided defensive options following William Saliba’s serious back problem.
