Arsenal hold an interest in signing Bournemouth’s Alex Scott
Arsenal reportedly hold an interest in signing AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, as per BBC Sport.
Following Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s departure, the Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by purchasing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi last year.
Although the North London club won the Premier League title last campaign, Norgaard struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up. On the other hand, Zubimendi started promisingly at the Emirates Stadium but struggled to continue the momentum.
As a result, Arsenal upgraded the engine room by signing Bruno Guimaraes this summer, having sold Norgaard to Everton. On the other hand, Zubimendi has been playing as a rotational option this season.
Now, BBC Sport report that Arsenal are considering signing a new midfielder next year and hold an interest in Scott. But they will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Chelsea and Liverpool are also in this race.
Manchester City and Manchester United previously expressed their interest in him, but after revamping the midfield department this summer, they are unlikely to revive their interest in Scott.
The report state that although Scott has entered the final two years of his current contract, Bournemouth don’t want to let him leave in January. The 23-year-old, meanwhile, is willing to leave Vitality Stadium to take the next step in his career and has rejected a couple of new contract offers.
Scott to Arsenal
Scott, valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt, is a right-footed box-to-box midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the defensive midfield position. Moreover, he can provide cover in the CAM role if needed.
Arsenal currently have Guimaraes, Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions. On the other hand, Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze are the creative midfielders.
Therefore, Arsenal don’t need to invest more to add further depth to this position unless anyone leaves. Instead, they would be better off signing a new left-winger and striker.
Nevertheless, Scott is a top-class player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services by defeating other clubs in this race.
