Arsenal ‘intensifying’ efforts to sign River Plate star Ian Subiabre
Arsenal have entered the race to sign highly rated Argentine right winger Ian Subiabre from River Plate, as per a recent report via Sport Witness.
Following the appointment of Andrea Berta as sporting director, Arsenal have not only focused on reinforcing the first team but have also stepped up their youth-driven recruitment, bringing several exciting prospects to the Emirates Stadium.
Recent arrivals include Colombian twins Edwin Quintero and Holger Quintero, alongside Jaden Dixon from Stoke City and Evan Mooney from St Mirren.
Mikel Arteta has also handed opportunities to several standout talents from Hale End Academy this season, with Marli Solomon making his debut in the 3–0 victory over Club Brugge KV in the UEFA Champions League.
Max Dowman also became the Premier League’s youngest-ever goalscorer after netting in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton last weekend, six months after becoming the league’s second-youngest debutant ever behind Ethan Nwaneiri after featuring in the 5-0 win over Leeds United in August.
The club does not look to be relenting efforts in their ambitious youth-driven acquisition and have now set their sights on Subiabre as their next target.
This is according to a recent report via Sport Witness, which claims that Arsenal, among several clubs in the Premier League, are ‘intensifying’ their interest in Subiabre.
Exciting prospect
The Premier League leaders are now closely monitoring the Argentina U20 international ahead of a potential move to the Emirates Stadium, the report adds.
However, a deal won’t be easy, as Sports Witness adds that River have inserted an £87m release clause on the 19-year-old’s contract after he recently extended his stay at the Estadio Mâs Monumental until 2028.
Having displayed qualities beyond his age in his 11 appearances for the Los Millonarios this season, it’s no surprise several clubs are set to battle with the North Londoners for Subiabre’s signature.
Arsenal will need to act swiftly to secure his signature, as the report adds that Premier League rivals Chelsea, who are the ‘most active’ club in the race for the exciting winger, are also in the running.
Subiabre made his debut for River as a youngster during the 2023/2024 season and became a mainstay last season under former coach Marcelo Gallardo. Still, it is this season that he has established himself as a first-team regular for the Millonarios.
While his goal involvements this season have been limited, his qualities suggest that, under the right coaching – particularly in an environment like Arsenal’s – the youngster could develop into a formidable attacker in the future.
