Arsenal keen on signing Man City target Nico Paz
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City target and Como youngster Nico Paz, as per Caught Offside.
After taking over the managerial role back in 2019, Mikel Arteta has made the Gunners a Premier League title contender. They came very close to winning the title in the last couple of seasons but were pipped to the post by eventual champions Man City on both occasions.
The Spanish boss said ahead of this term that he is desperate to finally win the league this season. But, it appears they are set to be beaten by Liverpool in the title race this time around, sitting 13 points behind the league leader Reds.
Injury problems have been the main issue behind the Gunners inconsistency this season as Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White were all out at one stage this season.
Moreover, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have been sidelined with their problems in recent weeks, while Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s season is already over.
Paz to Arsenal
Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are planning to hire a new attacking midfielder to support Odegaard as Arteta doesn’t have a proper backup to the Norwegian.
The North London club have identified Paz as a serious option having watched him closely this season. They sent scouts to watch him in action against Fiorentina and Napoli where the 20-year-old scored a goal and an assist.
Man City have also expressed their interest in signing him after monitoring his development closely this campaign. But Real Madrid hold the key to the youngster’s future as they have a buyback clause and also have a 50% sell-on clause. The youngster joined the Italian side from Los Blancos last summer.
The Argentinian is valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2028 with Cesc Fábregas’s side. He is a left-footed attacking midfielder by traits but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. The South American has made 10 goal contributions in 21 Serie A starts thus far this season.
Paz is a technically gifted player and would be an ideal option to provide cover for Odegaard. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
