[Photo] Mesut Ozil sends message to Arsenal fans ahead of Barcelona
Mesut Ozil has posted a message to Arsenal fans on his Instagram page ahead of tomorrow night’s huge Champions League showdown against Barcelona.
We welcome the Spanish giants to the Emirates on Tuesday night for the first leg of our last-16 tie and Ozil has called on all Gooners to get behind the team and be their 12th man.
The German international has pleaded with the supporters to ‘scream, support and encourage’ over the full ninety minutes to help the boys repeat the win they produced over Bayern Munich earlier in the season.
Very well said, Mesut. I’ve seen way too much negativity from our own fanbase on social media today with some even suggesting we ‘throw’ the game by fielding a team of youngsters in much the same way Man City did for their FA Cup tie at Chelsea yesterday.
It’s ridiculous. Yes, we’ve got more chance of winning the Premier League than the Champions League but these are the games ever player and fan should dream of being involved in, so we should be right up for it and giving 100%.
Why fight so hard to qualify for the Champions League each year to then bottle it when we get to face the big boys? It makes no sense. Can you imagine the confidence boost it would give the squad if we somehow managed to beat Barcelona?
I personally can’t wait for tomorrow, so hope the fans listen to Mesut and get right behind the team.
