Arsenal ‘really interested’ in signing Dean Huijsen
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing AFC Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Following the integration of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as the centre-back pairing, the Gunners have become one of the best teams defensively in the Premier League.
Last season, they conceded only 29 goals in 38 league matches. Now, they have leaked 27 goals in 33 games this campaign. Even amid Gabriel’s injury absence, Jakub Kiwior has filled his void seamlessly and has helped Mikel Arteta’s side reach the semi-final of the Champions League by beating Real Madrid in the quarter-final.
Still, it appears the North London club are planning to add more depth in the centre-back position. On GiveMeSport, Romano says that Arsenal are ‘really interested’ in Huijsen and could make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
However, purchasing him won’t be easy as Chelsea and Liverpool are also plotting a swoop for him. Newcastle United are in this race as well and consider him a dream option to strengthen the defensive department.
Huijsen to Arsenal
However, it would be difficult for them to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in this race. The player has also attracted the attention of big clubs around Europe, but is likely to remain in the Premier League.
Romano said:
“From what I’m hearing, Arsenal are also interested. Newcastle dream of him, but I think for Newcastle, it is going to be very difficult to get the deal done now with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal. These three clubs are really interested, so I think he’s going to stay in the Premier League.”
Although the player still has five years left in his current contract with Bournemouth, he has a £50m release clause, and it can be triggered this summer.
The 20-year-old, standing at 6ft 5in tall, has enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in the Premier League this season and is considered one of the best young defenders in the world.
Therefore, perhaps, although Arsenal currently have a pretty strong defensive department, they don’t want to miss out on the opportunity of signing a player of his qualities.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club can eventually manage to secure his service in the upcoming transfer window.
