Arsenal express interest in signing Newcastle ace Gordon
Arsenal have reportedly registered their interest in signing Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon, as per the Daily Mail.
After coming through Everton’s youth system, the 23-year-old joined the Magpies in a £40m deal last year. The forward initially took time to settle down in his new surroundings but displayed impressive performances in the Premier League last season, scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists in 35 appearances.
Following a stellar domestic campaign, the forward was selected to play for England in the European Championship but he remained on the periphery for most of the tournament, playing only four minutes.
Having been impressed by Gordon’s performances, Liverpool made an attempt to sign him earlier this summer. But, the Tyneside club eventually managed to keep hold of their star man.
Now, the Daily Mail states that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing him as their sporting director Edu Gasper is a big fan of him. But, it is unlikely that the Gunners would be able to secure his signature before the deadline.
Gordon to Arsenal
The report further claims that Arsenal have made a shortlist of attackers with Gordon being among them and Mikel Arteta’s side could make a concrete approach to secure his signature next summer.
However, the forward is reportedly happy at Newcastle and they have already held initial talks with him over a potential new contract.
It has previously been reported that Newcastle want a fee of around £75m to sell the forward but it remains to be seen how much money Eddie Howe’s side eventually demand to sell him next year should Arsenal formalise their interest.
Gordon is an explosive winger and can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas. Moreover, he has the ability to finish off his chances, can create opportunities for fellow attackers and also works extremely hard without possession.
He is a Premier League proven player so spending big to sign him would be a risk-free operation if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club opt to make a concrete approach to sign him to bolster the frontline.
