Arsenal on the verge of signing Tommy Setford from Ajax
Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of signing Tommy Setford from Ajax Amsterdam this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been very quiet in this transfer window as their only summer business so far is making David Raya’s loan move permanent. They are also reportedly in discussion to sign Riccardo Calafiori after agreeing on personal terms with him.
However, the North London club have reportedly been struggling to find an agreement with Bologna regarding the transfer fee as the Italian club want a fee of around £42m to sell their star man but Arsenal are not willing to spend that much. Therefore, it has been suggested that the deal has now been stalled.
It has also been reported that the Emirates club want a new striker and midfielder but they aren’t seemingly working on any deals to sign anyone.
Arsenal appear to be prioritising trimming down their squad by selling some stars first before making new signings as a few players have been linked with a move away from the club with Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson being among them, while Albert Sambi Lokonga has already left the club to join Sevilla.
Setford to Arsenal
However, in the meantime, Romano has reported that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign yet another goalkeeper having agreed on a deal in principle worth around £800,000 fee with Ajax for Setford.
The journalist further claims that Arteta’s side have already booked medical and after passing the necessary tests, the player will sign a four-year contract.
Romano said:
“Arsenal have booked medical tests for new young goalkeeper Tommy Setford who’s set to join from Ajax. Agreement between Arsenal and Ajax for fee close to €1m after first proposal as exclusively revealed. Four year contract, confirmed.”
The 18-year-old will be a player for the future and is unlikely to feature for Arsenal next season. So, it is going to be interesting to see what the youngster’s role will be at the Emirates Stadium next season.
Meanwhile, after narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title last term, it remains to be seen whether they can finally manage to win the league next season.
