Arsenal dealt double injury blow ahead of Man Utd but duo return
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his press conference this morning and has given a team news update ahead of Sunday’s huge showdown with Manchester United.
The boss has confirmed that Granit Xhaka is expected to miss the game after failing to recover from an ankle injury he picked up during the defeat at Tottenham last weekend.
Xhaka was forced off in the second half at White Hart Lane after taking a kick to his ankle and the Swiss international is now set to miss this weekend’s clash with United.
In a double blow, Wenger also confirmed that while Lucas Perez has been back in full training recently after recovering from a thigh injury, the striker isn’t likely to be available for selection after suffering a setback in training.
However, there was some positive team news as the boss revealed that Shkodran Mustafi is back in full training and could therefore be in contention to face United on Sunday.
The German international has missed the last four games due to a thigh injury but it will be interesting to see where he fits in to the new 3-4-3 system if he’s selected this weekend.
Wenger also confirmed that David Ospina is fit again and will be back in the squad after recovering from a back problem that’s kept him out of action recently.
The boss told the Mirror:
“Granit Xhaka is still out from the kick he got from the game and Shkodran Mustafi is back in normal training.
“David Ospina is back and Lucas Perez is back in training but he will miss the next two days as he got a kick in training yesterday.”
We head in to the weekend action sitting sixth in the table so we know we simply have to beat United to stand any chance of finishing in the top four this season.
