Arsenal Could Land Draxler NOW With €45m+ Bid

By on January 13, 2014

Arsenal could sign Julian Draxler this month if we table a bid in excess of his €45m buy-out clause, according to German-based agent Jan Aage Fjortoft.

Draxler has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months and we came close to agreeing a deal with Schalke in the summer before the player opted to remain in the Bundesliga in order to secure his place in the German World Cup squad.

We’ve maintained our interest and reports have suggested Arsene Wenger was prepared to wait until the end of the season before trying to finally land the highly-rated 20-year-old – who’s €45m (£37.5m) release clause can only be activated in the summer and not mid-season.

Fjortoft claimed a few weeks ago that Draxler has already been shown around the Arsenal training facilities and the player himself has previously admitted he has spoken with Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil about life in north London, so all signs point to a summer move being a real possibility.

However, Theo Walcott’s injury has forced Wenger’s hand and some say the boss may try and bring forward the move to this month.

The major stumbling block over any January deal appears to be the fact that Schalke are still in the Champions League but now Fjortoft has claimed that he’s been told the German’s may be persuaded to cash in NOW if we table a bid in excess of his €45m buy-out fee.

Fjortoft – who is now an agent and TV pundit after hanging up his boots – was the first to break news of Ozil’s move to Arsenal and has also proved to be reliable with his information regarding Robert Lewandowsk and Mario Gotze’s moves to Bayern Munich, so he certainly one of the more trustworthy ITK’s out there.

He doesn’t state how much we’d have to pay to land Draxler this month, but it’s likely we’ll have to break our transfer record again and spend over €50m. Can you see Wenger spending that kind of money this month? I’m not convinced.

Draxler is certainly hugely talented and would be an excellent addition, but I’m not getting my hopes up that we’ll see him move to the Emirates this month.
