Arsenal interested in signing Aston Villa defender Konsa

By on August 6, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa, as per talkSPORT.

After finishing second in three consecutive Premier League campaigns, the Gunners managed to finally win the title under Mikel Arteta’s guidance last term.

The Spanish boss is said to be keen on refreshing the squad this summer to continue challenging on all fronts over coming years. After cashing-in on Leandro Trossard, Arsenal have reinforced the left flank by purchasing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.

Moreover, the North London club are closing in on a deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, having decided to allow Christian Norgaard to join Everton.

Now, talkSPORT state that following William Saliba’s recent back injury, Arsenal are considering signing a new centre-back and have earmarked Konsa as a serious option.

Arteta is a big fan of the 28-year-old due to his ability to provide cover in the centre-back and right-back positions. The Emirates club initially expressed their interest in him during the World Cup before the Frenchman’s injury.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Aston Villa aren’t in any rush to sell him. Having already sold big stars like Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne, Unai Emery might be hoping to keep hold of Konsa.

However, the report state that the Villans would be ready to cash-in on him for a fee of around £60m.

Konsa to Arsenal

Konsa is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is efficient in defensive contributions. He even helped his side win the Europa League last campaign.

After proving his worth in club football, the defender has secured his place in England national team’s starting line-up.

He is a Premier League proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, Konsa might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

Other than Saliba, Arsenal currently have Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White as options to deploy in the RCB position. However, White has had fitness problems in recent years, while Arteta has mainly used Timber and White as right-backs.

It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure Konsa to the Emirates Stadium during this offseason.
