Arsenal agree £75m deal to sign Bruno Guimaraes, personal terms also agreed
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign Bruno Guimaraes, as per transfer expert David Ornstein.
The Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by purchasing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard last summer. However, the Dane struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up before joining Everton in this window.
On the other hand, the Spaniard enjoyed a bright start at the Emirates Stadium but failed to maintain the momentum during the final few weeks of last campaign.
Moreover, Mikel Merino struggled with fitness problems, as a result, Declan Rice had to take on an enormous workload over the past 12 months. So, Arsenal have decided to reinforce the midfield department this summer.
After intense negotiation over the last few weeks, the Magpies have agreed to sell Guimaraes to Arsenal for a fee of around £75m, on The Athletic, Ornstein has reported this.
The Gunners wanted to spend less to sign the 28-year-old, while Newcastle initially demanded a higher fee. However, the two sides have now reached a compromise, with Olympique Lyonnais set to receive 20% profit of this sale.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has backed Ornstein with his trademark ‘here we go’ post and says that Arsenal agreed personal terms with Guimaraes back in July.
Guimaraes to Arsenal
Romano said:
“Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal, HERE WE GO! Agreement in place with Newcastle after long talks and personal terms in place with Bruno since July. Fee worth £75m. New midfielder for Mikel Arteta.”
Sky Sports News are one of several media outlets also reporting that Guimaraes has been given permission to leave Newcastle’s training camp and travel to London to undergo his medical with Arsenal.
Guimaraes is a box-to-box midfielder by trait but can also provide cover in the defensive midfield position if needed. He is quick, strong, good in the air, can play threading passes between the lines and is efficient at taking set-pieces.
Guimaraes has showcased his qualities in the Premier League since joining from Lyon back in 2022, helping his side win the Carabao Cup last year.
Although the midfielder struggled with fitness problems last term, he showcased his productivity, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists across all competitions.
Having proven his worth in club football, Guimaraes has established himself as a key player in the Brazilian national team’s starting line-up.
He is a top-class, Premier League proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, Guimaraes is expected to be a great coup for Arsenal.
