Arsenal plot swoop to sign Barcola as Vinicius alternative

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola as an alternative to Vinicius Junior, as per talkSPORT.

Although the Gunners won the Premier League title last term, they struggled to score goals from open play. As a result, they have prioritised revamping the frontline this summer.

After cashing-in on Leandro Trossard, Arsenal have purchased Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. However, they reportedly want a new marquee left-winger as well.

Initially, they attempted to sign Morgan Rogers, but Chelsea have won the race. Moreover, Mikel Arteta’s side expressed their interest in signing Vinicius Junior, but Real Madrid are close to agreeing on a fresh long-term contract with him.

Now, talkSPORT state that if Arsenal fail to secure the Brazilian’s services, they could make a move to sign Barcola. The 23-year-old has entered the final two years of his current contract but has rejected several contract proposals from PSG.

Liverpool are also interested in the Frenchman, and he currently prefers a move to Anfield. But he would also be tempted to join Arsenal if they make a move. However, PSG have no intention of letting him leave cheaply and want around £140m.

Barcola likes to be deployed on the left flank. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and is efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers.

Barcola to Arsenal

Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Tzolis as left-wing options. Moreover, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke can provide cover in this position if needed.

However, the Brazilian has displayed inconsistent performances in recent campaigns, and he has entered the final 12 months of his current contract, meaning his long-term future isn’t secured at the Emirates Stadium at the moment.

Barcola is a talented player and has shown glimpses of his qualities for club and country in recent years. Moreover, he isn’t a finished article yet.

Therefore, the PSG star would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services before the start of next season.
