Arsenal make contact to sign Eberechi Eze ahead of Tottenham
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to trump Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 27-year-old has been in excellent form in recent campaigns and guided his team to win the FA Cup by scoring the winner against Manchester City in the final last term. Meaning, they are expected to play in the Europa League next season.
However, there are some doubts about the South London club’s participation in Europe’s second-tier club competition due to multi-ownership problems.
In 43 appearances in all competitions, the Englishman netted 14 goals and registered 12 assists last term. Even though he initially started the campaign slowly.
Now writing on X, Romano says that Arsenal have identified Eze as a serious option to strengthen the attacking department and have already made contact over this deal.
The Gunners have already been made aware of the details to seal the deal. The Englishman reportedly has a £68m release clause, and his existing deal is set to run until 2027.
Eze to Arsenal
However, the Italian journalist claims that purchasing Eze won’t be straightforward for the Emirates club as Tottenham are also keen on securing his service.
Romano wrote:
“Arsenal have made contact with Eberechi Eze’s camp over the weekend. Contacts are taking place for Crystal Palace star with AFC informed on deal conditions. Tottenham remain also keen on Eze.”
Eze is a versatile forward as he usually plays as a left-sided CAM in Oliver Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 formation, but was deployed on the left flank by Gareth Southgate for England in the European Championship last summer. Moreover, he can provide cover in the box-to-box role in a midfield three.
Arsenal currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as the options for the left wing role, but neither managed to showcase productivity consistently last term.
On the other hand, Eze is a proven goal contributor in the Premier League. So, his addition would definitely upgrade the left flank of Arteta’s side.
However, the forward has proven that he is more effective inside than playing as a touchline winger, so Arteta might have to tweak his system a bit to bring the best out of him should he sign him.
