Arsenal predicted line-up against Sporting CP
Following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last weekend, Arsenal will face off against Sporting CP in the Champions League at Jose Alvalade Stadium tonight.
The Gunners lost their previous game against Inter Milan in this competition and as a result, they are currently 12th in the table with seven points from four games.
The top eight will qualify for the pre-quarterfinal stage automatically so the North London club will be hoping to achieve that.
On the other hand, Sporting are currently second in the table with 10 points from four games and they just changed their manager following Ruben Amorim’s departure to Man Utd so it remains to be seen how they perform after the change.
Team news
Ben White has sustained an injury and is set to remain sidelined with his problem over the next few weeks so he isn’t in contention to feature in this fixture. Moreover, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney are also unexpected to be available tonight due to their respective problems.
Predicted line-up
Mikel Arteta made a few changes to his starting Xl last time out against Nottingham Forest so it remains to be seen what the Spaniard decides to do for this encounter.
However, it is almost certain that David Raya would be between the sticks for the North London club. In front of the former Brentford star, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes should be the centre-back pairing. Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori could be the two fullbacks.
Thomas Partey is expected to return to the line-up after starting on the bench last weekend, while Declan Rice could also be called upon to start ahead of Mikel Merino in the engine room with Martin Odegaard in the attacking midfield position. So, Ethan Nwaneri will have to settle for a place on the bench despite putting his name on the scoresheet last time out.
Bukayo Saka would be on the right flank and Leandro Trossard might continue on the opposite side. Therefore, Gabriel Martinelli and Raheem Sterling should be among the substitutes.
Kai Havertz may return to the centre-forward position after remaining as an unused substitute versus Nottingham Forest. Therefore, Gabriel Jesus could return to the bench.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Sporting CP
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Havertz, Trossard
