Favourite to replace Wenger fuels Arsenal move talk
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has fuelled talk he could be heading to Arsenal amid fresh speculation that he’s being lined-up to replace Arsene Wenger.
The boss is under ever-increasing pressure to call time on his long association with Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the season after our title hopes were ended for another year following back-to-back defeats to Watford and Chelsea.
Wenger refused to be drawn on his future at his press conference this morning after being quizzed about reports linking Massimiliano Allegri with his job, should he walk away in the summer.
The Juventus manager has been installed as the bookmakers favourite to replace Wenger and the 49-year-old has fuelled the speculation after refusing to deny reports that he’s being lined-up by Arsenal.
Speaking after Juve’s 2-0 win over Crotone last night – which saw them move seven points clear at the top of Serie A – when asked about contacts with Arsenal, Allegri is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“I won’t deny or confirm anything, I am in sync with the club, now we have to focus on winning.
“At this time of the season the media always says I’m leaving, even when things are going really well.”
Juventus are understandably keen for Allegri to stay as he’s well on course to winning his third Scudetto but the Italian seems to be fanning the flames over a possible move to north London.
Personally, I think it’s time for a fresh approach at Arsenal and believe now is the time for Wenger to step aside and Allegri would certainly be the kind of manager we should be targetting as a replacement.
