Confirmed: Arsenal boss charged with misconduct by FA
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been officially charged with misconduct by the Football Association for his behaviour during our 2-1 win over Burnley on Sunday.
Wenger was sent to the stands by referee Jon Moss after being incensed at Burnley being awarded a 92nd minute penalty which drew them 1-1 and looked to have cost us two vital points.
The Frenchman continued to remonstrate with fourth official Anthony Taylor and ended up shoving him after being told to go back to the changing room as the boss tried to watch the final few minutes of the match in the tunnel area.
Wenger apologiesed for his behaviour immediately after the game but that hasn’t prevented the FA from taking action as they’ve now confirmed the Arsenal boss has been hit by a misconduct charge.
A statement by the FA read:
Arsene Wenger has been charged for misconduct following Arsenal’s game against Burnley on Sunday [22 January 2017].
It is alleged that in or around the 92nd minute, he used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official. It is further alleged that following his dismissal from the technical area, his behaviour in remaining in the tunnel area and making physical contact with the fourth official amounted to improper conduct.
He has until 6pm on 26 January 2017 to respond to the charge.
Wenger has very little grounds to appeal so he’s likely to accept the charge and a touchline ban is expected to follow. Alan Padrew received a two-match ban for a similar incident in 2012 so that’s the minimum Arsene should get.

He is one of the great custodians of all that is sacred about the league. He should be an example to others, so I expect Wenger’s ban to be stiffer, along with a fine.
However, I loved that he showed some passion, for a change.
