Arsenal eye move to sign Barcelona star Raphinha
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona forward Raphinha, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners currently have Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri as the two options to deploy on the right flank, while Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are for the left.
Saka has established himself as a talismanic figure for the club since debuting after rising through the Hale End academy. On the other hand, Martinelli is the first-choice option for the left flank.
However, he has been inconsistent this season, and Trossard has entered his 30s and will enter the final year of his current contract this summer. So, it has been reported that the North London club want a new left-sided forward.
Fichajes claim that Arsenal are interested in Raphinha to bolster the frontline and have been monitoring his situation closely at the Catalan giants before making a potential swoop during the off-season.
The Brazilian don’t want to leave Hansi Flick’s side, but they could be open to cashing-in on him to balance the books amid their financial difficulties and have slapped a £86m price tag on his head.
Raphinha to Arsenal
However, the report state that Arteta’s side will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Chelsea and Liverpool are also keen on purchasing him.
Raphinha is a left-footed versatile forward. He likes to be deployed on the right flank, but due to Lamine Yamal’s presence, he couldn’t play in his preferred position and has been playing as a left winger in recent times.
He has enjoyed the best campaign in his career in this role and has been propelling his side to win the treble this term. Moreover, Raphinha can also provide cover in the CAM role.
Arsenal hold a long-term interest in the forward as they reportedly attempted to hire him from Leeds United a few years ago, but the player opted to join the Blaugrana. Since then, Arsenal have continuously been linked with a move for him in almost every transfer window.
The 28-year-old is considered one of the best forwards in the world at the moment and is in the conversation to win the Ballon d’Or. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him this summer.
