Arsenal battling with PL rivals to sign Feyenoord’s Read

Arsenal are reportedly battling with Premier League rivals over a deal to sign Feyenoord defender Givairo Read, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as right-back options. Moreover, Cristhian Mosquera and Ezri Konsa can provide cover in this position if needed.

However, White has had numerous fitness problems in recent years. After recovering from his injuries, he started the first few games of this season.

But having sustained a fresh issue vs Sunderland, he remained sidelined in the last two matches against Ipswich Town and Brighton and Hove Albion.

On the other hand, Timber has also had injury issues in recent months, and after recovering from his injury, he made his first start of this season vs the Seagulls.

With White entering the final two years of his current deal, the Emirates club have seemingly started exploring options to strengthen the right-back position.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Read and are set to keep a close eye on his development over the coming months before making a potential swoop next year.

Read to Arsenal

Initially, the Gunners kept a close eye on the Dutchman this summer but never made a formal approach. On the other hand, Nottingham Forest and Everton wanted to purchase him in the summer window, while Liverpool and Manchester City were monitoring his situation closely.

Ultimately, Feyenoord managed to keep hold of him. However, the report state that, like Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City remain keen on the youngster.

Read is valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2029. Therefore, the Eredivisie giants aren’t in any rush to sell him next year.

Read is a right-footed right-back and has enjoyed a promising start this season, registering four assists in seven Eredivisie appearances. Moreover, he has helped his side keep two clean sheets.

The defender is quick, can play threading passes between the lines, is efficient in creating opportunities for the forwards, and is solid in defensive contributions.

Read is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
