Arsenal to make a move to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, as per transfer expert Mike Brown.
Since becoming the Gunners’ manager in 2019, Mikel Arteta initially faced challenges with defensive weaknesses. However, following the formation of the centre-back partnership between Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, Arteta’s team has now emerged as one of the contenders for the Premier League title.
The Frenchman has been the mainstay of Arsenal in recent times and is now deemed one of the best centre-backs in the world.
After displaying his qualities in the Premier League, Saliba has attracted the attention of big European clubs. Speaking on Football Insider, Brown says that Real Madrid are interested in signing him to address their defensive issues.
The North London club ideally don’t want to let the defender leave the club but if they eventually fail to keep hold of him then they have identified Guehi as a key target to replace him.
Guehi to Arsenal
Crystal Palace don’t want to let him leave as he is their key player and club captain but considering the defender will enter the final year of his current contract next summer, they could be forced to cash-in on him.
The transfer expert and the former scout says Guehi would be a ‘perfect’ option to replace Saliba as he is a Premier League proven player and has established himself as an England international.
However, purchasing the 24-year-old won’t be straightforward for the North London club as other English clubs are also interested in luring him away from Selhurst Park.
Brown said:
“Arsenal will be looking at Marc Guehi. He’d be the perfect option to slot in there, he’s an England international with plenty of Premier League experience, he’s very good on the ball, he’s extremely consistent, and he’s a leader. So if Saliba goes to Real Madrid, I expect Guehi to be Arsenal’s top target to replace him.”
Guehi, valued at around £37m by Transfermarkt, would be a great coup for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, the Gunners should do everything in their power to keep hold of Saliba as he is still very young and losing him would be a huge blow.
Meanwhile, after being knocked out of the EFL Cup last week, Arsenal will face off against Leicester City in the Premier League next weekend.
