Arsenal could attempt to sign Newcastle star Alexander Isak
Arsenal could reportedly make an attempt to sign Newcastle United star Alexander Isak, as per transfer insider Mike Brown.
It was widely reported in the summer transfer window that the Gunners were keen on strengthening the frontline by signing a new centre-forward.
Numerous names were linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko being among them. Moreover, Isak was suggested as a serious option for them as well.
However, the North London club eventually didn’t sign any new strikers before the deadline. Now, it has been reported that Arsenal are still interested in hiring a new number nine and are planning to do that next year.
Speaking on Football Insider, former scout of Manchester United, Aston Villa and Sunderland, Brown, says that a few big clubs have been keeping a close eye on Isak with Arsenal likely to be among them and they could make a concrete approach to sign him next year.
Isak to Arsenal
The transfer insider further claims that Isak is a top-class player and would be a great asset for any club in the world. The Swedish international isn’t happy at the Magpies as they didn’t show any signs of ambition by signing top-class players to strengthen the squad in the summer.
So, although Newcastle are keen on keeping hold of him by tying him down to a new contract, he might be open to leaving the club. Brown said:
“He’d[Isak] be an asset to any club in Europe. I’ve heard whispers speaking about a potential move to Arsenal and that wouldn’t shock me. There are a few of the top clubs who have been keeping an eye on his situation.”
The forward, valued at around £63m by Transfermarkt, still has more than three and a half years left in his current contract. Therefore, the Tyneside club are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in on him next year.
Isak is a versatile player as he can be deployed in the striker position as well as the left-wing role. He has already proven his qualities in the Premier League in recent times so he would take less time to settle down if Arsenal were to sign him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually step up their efforts to hire him to strengthen the attack next year.
