Arsenal growing in confidence to sign Vinicius Junior

Arsenal are reportedly growing in confidence to sign Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, as per ESPN.

Since moving to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu from Flamengo, the 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best forwards in the world, guiding his side to win every possible major competition over the years.

Although he failed to help his side win any silverware last term, he showcased his goal-scoring prowess, scoring 22 goals and registering 10 assists across all competitions.

However, Vinicius’ long-term future is currently uncertain in the Spanish capital as his existing deal is set to expire at the end of next season.

Now, as per ESPN (via the Standard), Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr’s representatives are set to hold talks regarding a contract extension on Wednesday.

The Brazilian wants around €30m-a-year in salary package to commit his long-term future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, but Los Blancos don’t want to increase their current offer of around €22m-a-year.

Therefore, the financial differences between Vinicius Jr and Real Madrid remain significant. As a result, Arsenal are growing in confidence to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Vinicius Jr to Arsenal

The report state that although the forward has entered the final year of his current contract, Real Madrid have no intention of letting him leave for cheap and want around £128m.

Vinicius Jr is a left-winger by trait but can also be deployed as a second striker. He has showcased his qualities for club and country at the highest level and is currently at the prime stage of his career.

He has even established himself as Brazil’s talismanic figure. Therefore, Vinicius Jr would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.

Mikel Arteta currently has Christos Tzolis and Gabriel Martinelli as options to deploy on the left flank. However, the Brazilian has displayed below-average performances in recent years and has entered the final 12 months of his current contract.

Therefore, Martinelli’s long-term future isn’t secured at the Emirates Stadium. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually manage to secure the Real Madrid star’s services before the end of this transfer window.
