Arsenal transfer news: Bids worth £80m rejected
It’s going to be a hectic couple of days in north London as Arsenal have a lot of transfer business to conduct before the window closes on Thursday night.
As well as securing in-comings, the club are also negotiating the sale of several players with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez strongly tipped to leave.
The Evening Standard claim that Arsenal have now knocked back a £30m offer from Liverpool for Oxlade-Chamberlain after the midfielder rejected a £40m switch to Chelsea.
We had agreed terms with the Blues yesterday but the newspaper says The Ox has reservations about joining Chelsea due to differing views over where he’d play and concerns over Antonio Conte’s long-term future at the club.
Conte had earmarked Oxlade-Chamberlain for the right wing-back role at Stamford Bridge but the 23-year-old is desperate to play in central midfield and believes he has more chance of playing in his favoured position at Anfield.
The Evening Standard claim that Liverpool are hoping to negotiate a fee below £40m due to the players clear desire to join them over Chelsea but Arsenal are open to keeping Chamberlain for the final year of his contract if their valuation isn’t met.
Sanchez has also been strongly linked with a move this summer and Sky Sports claim Arsenal have now rejected Man City’s opening £50m offer.
We saw reports yesterday suggesting we could be interested in taking Raheem Sterling in exchange for Sanchez but it’s understood City are now only willing to discuss a cash-only deal.
However, they will have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the Chilean international as Arsenal are reportedly wanting at least £70m if City aren’t prepared to offer Sterling in exchange.
I’m totally behind selling Sanchez as there is no point keeping a player who’s not committed to the club so I’d prefer we take the £70m and use it to buy Julian Draxler.

So it looks like Arsenal have rejected bids totalling £80m in recent hours for Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sanchez. We’ll have to wait and see how these deals progress over the coming hours but I have a feeling at least of the pair will be sold.
But if we could get £100m for both then we’d have ample funds to sign Draxler and a top centre-back such as van Dijk, but they look like pipe dreams right now.
