Arsenal preparing fresh offer to sign Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal are preparing to submit a fresh formal offer to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
Guimarães has established himself as one of the best midfielders in England since his move from the French club Lyon in 2022.
Over the last four and a half seasons, he has made 195 appearances for the Magpies, producing 63 goal contributions, including 17 during the recently concluded campaign, while playing a central role in the club’s resurgence.
Guimarães has also become an integral member of the Brazil national team, featuring regularly under Carlo Ancelotti at the ongoing FIFA World Cup before Brazil’s round-of-16 elimination to Norway.
Given his wealth of experience at both international and club level with outstanding technical quality and leadership, the 28-year-old possesses all the attributes required to strengthen any side competing for major honours.
One of the clubs interested in Guimarães is Arsenal, who reportedly saw their first offer for the midfielder.
The Gunners remain keen on signing him, with TEAMtalk reporting that the Premier League champions are preparing to submit a fresh, formal offer for the 28-year-old.
The report adds that the Magpies’ captain is ‘growing frustrated’ with the club’s direction following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, as well as their failure to qualify for Europe.
Arsenal keen on Guimarães
As a result, Arsenal have now emerged as the ‘most aggressive suitors’ to sign the former Athletico Paranaense starlet, viewing him as an ‘ideal addition’ to Mikel Arteta’s midfield, according to the report.
However, TEAMtalk adds that the North London giants face competition from Real Madrid, who have rekindled their long-standing interest in the Brazilian international.
Described as ‘world class’ by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, Guimarães’ on-ball and off-ball qualities make him a good fit for Arsenal, and his statistics from last season back that up.
He ranked among the first five Premier League players for line-breaking passes (46) and through balls (21). His confidence under pressure also makes him a reliable outlet against high-pressing teams, having recorded 998 successful passes under high-intensity pressure last season.
With TEAMtalk reporting that Newcastle quickly rebuffed Arsenal’s verbal £55m offer, the Premier League champions will need to submit a significant offer well above his £59m Transfermarkt valuation to convince the Tyneside club to sell their captain.
