Arsenal interested in signing Real Madrid’s Raul Asencio

By on July 8, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid star Raul Asencio, as per TEAMtalk.

The 23-year-old started his youth career at Veteranos del Pilar before spending a few years with Las Palmas. He joined Los Blancos’ famous La Fábrica academy at the age of thirteen.

After rising through their youth system, the Spaniard spent a very short spell at RSC Internacional before returning to the Spanish capital in 2023.

The youngster made his first team debut for the Spanish giants the following year, but he has struggled to break into the starting line-up, starting only 18 La Liga matches last term.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that following Ben White’s recent injury problems, Arsenal are contemplating purchasing a new right-back to support Jurrien Timber.

The Gunners’ sporting director, Andrea Berta, has been doing extensive work on multiple targets and has identified Asencio as one of them. So, they could make a concrete approach over the coming weeks.

Apart from him, Arsenal are also interested in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jules Kounde, Ezri Konsa, Valentino Livramento, Óscar Mingueza, Lutsharel Geertruida, Wesley Franca, Vanderson, Givairo Read, and Ivan Fresneda.

Having recently signed an extension, Asencio, valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt, still has a contract until 2031. So, Real Madrid are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money to sell him.

Asencio to Arsenal

Mikel Arteta likes having versatile players, and Asencio is a centre-back by trait but can also provide cover in the right-back position. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, has an eye for long-range passing, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Asencio is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. He even possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League and hasn’t reached his prime yet.

So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. Alongside White, Timber has also had fitness problems in recent months; therefore, the Emirates club could do with signing a new defender.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Asencio’s services this summer.
