Wenger ‘Will Make £37m Attacker Bid’ In January – Report
Speculation linking Julian Draxler with a move to Arsenal refuses to go away with reports this weekend claiming that Arsene Wenger will meet his £37m buy-out clause in January.
Draxler has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past 12 months and we were understood to be close to doing a deal last January before Arsene refused to sanction the £37m purchase at the 11th hour.
We’ve continued to monitor the 21-year-old’s progress and the Express are reporting that the boss is now finally ready to meet Schalke’s demands and will match the attackers buy-out fee ahead of a potential move this January.
The newspaper suggests that with injuries continuing to be a major issue for the club this season, Arsene wants to inject new life into the squad and believes Draxler can add a new dimension to our attacking play.
However, while this all sounds great so far, the report kind of loses it’s credibility as the Express claims that Arsene will DROP Mesut Ozil in order to make room for Draxler!
There is simply no chance this will happen. If we do sign Draxler in January it will most likely mean Lukas Podolski leaving and the youngster will be used as a squad player during the second half of the season, but I highly doubt Ozil will be the man to make way.
I also have my concerns over spending such a huge sum on another attacker when we desperately need a defensive midfielder and a centre-back. I would certainly prioritise those two positions well ahead of an attacker in January, but obviously it’s Arsene’s decision.
