Arsenal interested in signing Atlético Madrid’s Alex Baena

By on November 3, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Atlético Madrid forward Alex Baena, as per TEAMtalk.

The 25-year-old came into the spotlight having displayed promising performances for Villarreal. After being impressed by him, Los Rojiblancos decided to purchase him last year.

However, he endured a tough debut campaign at the Estadio Metropolitano, making just five goal contributions in 46 appearances across all competitions.

Still, Luis De La Fuente selected Baena in the Spanish national team for this summer’s World Cup, and he helped his country become the World champions in the USA.

This season, Baena has enjoyed a promising start, scoring five goals and registering four assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he has been helping his side mount a title charge in La Liga.

Now, TEAMtalk state that Arsenal are considering strengthening the left wing and have been keeping a close eye on Baena. Mikel Arteta’s side hold a long-standing interest in him as they have been tracking him since his Villarreal days.

However, the North London club will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also in this race.

Baena to Arsenal

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Atlético Madrid are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in. However, they don’t want to part ways with him in mid-season. The report state that Los Rojiblancos might allow him to leave next summer for a fee of around £67m.

Baena is a technically gifted right-footed left-winger but can also provide cover centrally if needed. He can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers and can take set-pieces.

Moreover, the Spaniard works hard without possession. He is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, Baena might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
