Arsenal make contact to sign Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, as per Caught Offside.
The 23-year-old started his youth career at El Campillo before spending time with Recreativo and Real Betis. He joined the Blaugrana’s famous La Masia academy at the age of 13.
After coming through their youth system, Lopez made his first-team debut in 2023 and initially featured as a rotational option. He showcased his productivity last term, scoring 13 goals and registering 17 assists across all competitions.
This season, Lopez has continued to display eye-catching performances, netting five times and notching up four assists in 12 matches in all tournaments.
The Spaniard has helped Barcelona win two La Liga titles and a few domestic cup competitions. Having proven his worth in club football, the youngster has secured his place in the Spanish national team.
Now, Caught Offside state that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Lopez to strengthen the creative midfield position and have already made contact to learn about the details of signing him.
Moreover, Manchester United have held talks over this deal. However, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are showing the strongest interest in sealing the deal.
Lopez to Arsenal
The report state that Chelsea are planning to launch a massive bid, while Les Parisiens are prepared to submit a formal £67m[€80m] proposal. Barcelona are even open to cashing in on him, although his existing deal is set to run until 2031.
Lopez, valued at around £92m by Transfermarkt, is a creative midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the flanks if needed.
He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and has an eye for scoring goals from distance. Moreover, Lopez can create opportunities for fellow attackers and works hard without possession.
The Spaniard is a talented player and hasn’t reached his prime yet. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, having already got Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze, Arsenal don’t need a new creative midfielder. Moreover, Max Dowman is emerging and can provide cover in this position if needed.
