Arsenal are plotting an audacious swoop to sign Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga next summer, according to Fichajes.

Following a series of niggling injuries at the start of the campaign, the 23-year-old was looking to build his way back into the starting lineup under former coach Xabi Alonso, especially after being indispensable under Carlo Ancelotti last season.

However, regular playing time has been difficult to come by this season, with both Xabi Alonso and newly appointed Álvaro Arbeloa preferring a midfield trio of Federico Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Jude Bellingham.

Having played 735 minutes of football prior to Bellingham’s injury, the Englishman’s lengthy absence has increased his gametime, and he has now logged an additional 407 minutes.

Still, Arbeloa seems to prefer emerging academy star Thiago Pitarch, who has started Madrid’s last two Champions League games ahead of Camavinga, leading to rife speculations about his possible departure next summer, with several clubs now showing interest.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal have set their sights on Camavinga as a possible option to reinforce their midfield ranks next summer.

‘Perfect piece’

The report adds that the Gunners’ boss, Mikel Arteta, is looking to bolster his squad and views the 23-year-old’s technical ability and versatility as the ‘perfect piece’ to raise his team’s ceiling.

In a boost to Arsenal, Fichajes, citing reputable Italian transfer expert Matteo Moretto, reports that Madrid are open to Camavinga’s departure and could consider offers in excess of £43m for the France international, who is also of keen interest to Manchester City.

Camavinga has amassed a trophy-laden profile that spans domestic, European, and even international competitions, including two UEFA Champions Leagues, two LaLiga titles, two UEFA Super Cups, one Club World Cup, one Nations League title for Les Bleus, and many others.

Being part of the Madrid squad that has won all these honours doesn’t quite tell the full story, as the Frenchman has played a pivotal role in their success, scoring during the daredevil comebacks under Carlo Ancelotti and delivering numerous outstanding defensive performances.

His profile, top-flight experience and qualities make him a good fit for Arteta as he looks to build a well-balanced squad capable of maintaining their dominance in domestic and European competitions beyond the ongoing campaign.
