Arsenal shortlist Nusa, Pulisic, Mbaye & Brahim Díaz as Vinicius jnr alternative
Arsenal have shortlisted RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, AC Milan’s Christian Pulisic, Paris Saint-Germain’s Ibrahim Mbaye and Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz as potential alternatives if they fail to land Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid this summer, as per CaughtOffside.
The Gunners are looking to reinforce their squad ahead of next season following an unprecedented, historic Premier League title win last campaign.
One major area they are looking to reinforce is their attack, particularly the left wing. This comes after the trio of Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and the versatile Noni Madueke accumulated a meagre ten Premier League goals.
The club have been linked with several versatile attacking options that can also play on the left, but none have been added yet, with one of their major targets, Morgan Rogers, joining Chelsea from Aston Villa for a British record fee.
As a result, Mikel Arteta’s side have turned their attention to other targets, with Arsenal Station, citing David Ornstein, revealing that the Premier League champions have expressed interest in Madrid’s Vinicius.
However, due to Madrid’s reported insistence on keeping the left winger, CaughtOffside now reports that Arsenal have shortlisted several alternative options should their move for Vinicius fall through.
Alternative
Among the options, the report adds that Leipzig’s Nusa, who is reportedly valued at £51m, is at the top of the club’s shortlist for potential left wingers, while Milan’s Pulisic is viewed as an experienced option who can hand the manager a more established option, according to the report.
CaughtOffside adds that PSG’s Mbaye has also been added to the list, although he is being courted as a long-term investment, while Madrid’s Diaz’s ability to create from different positions is also a quality the club admires.
Considering Arsenal’s struggles in the league to produce goals from that position, it makes sense why they have Vinicius as their primary target.
The Brazilian international would undoubtedly be an instant upgrade on the club’s current options, especially after a prolific individual campaign in which he netted 22 goals and provided 14 assists across all competitions for Madrid last season.
Although Vinicius has just one year left on his contract, any potential deal for the 26-year-old is expected to exceed his £111m Transfermarkt valuation, so it’ll be interesting to see whether Arsenal will match his valuation, negotiate a lower fee or consider one of the four alternatives on their shortlist.
