Arsenal keeping a close eye on Julian Alvarez’s situation

Arsenal are reportedly ‘attentive’ to the situation of Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners reinforced the centre-forward position by purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP last summer. Although they won the Premier League title last term, he displayed inconsistent performances.

Alongside the Swedish international, Mikel Arteta currently has Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as options to deploy in the No.9 position. However, the German has had fitness problems in recent months.

On the other hand, the Brazilian has been struggling with injury issues since joining from Manchester City. He has entered the final year of his current contract, so his long-term future is currently uncertain at the Emirates Stadium.

As a result, it appears Arteta is keen on upgrading the CF position to continue challenging on all fronts next campaign.

Now, on his YouTube channel, Romano states that Arsenal are ‘attentive’ to Alvarez’s situation at Atletico Madrid and are ready to make a move if he doesn’t join Barcelona and Los Rojiblancos allow him to leave.

However, Arsenal haven’t been in concrete negotiations over this deal yet and haven’t offered Gyokeres in a part-exchange deal to sign the South American.

Alvarez to Arsenal

After enjoying great success at Manchester City, Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid a couple of years ago. He has showcased his productivity in La Liga in recent seasons but hasn’t won any major silverware.

Alongside displaying impressive performances in club football, he has enjoyed success on the international stage with Argentina, winning a World Cup and two Copa America.

The 26-year-old is one of the best forwards in the world and is currently at the prime stage of his career. He is quick, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, and is efficient in finishing off his chances.

Moreover, he is excellent at taking set-pieces and also works extremely hard without possession. So, the Argentinian international would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium during this offseason.
