Arsenal still exploring move for Rodrygo Goes
Arsenal could still make another attacking signing with Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid, despite nearing an agreement for Eberechi Eze.
Journalist Graeme Bailey reports that the Gunners are yet to close the door on a possible move for the Brazilian forward during the closing days of the window.
Arsenal maintain interest in Rodrygo
Mikel Arteta wants more options on the left flank, and Arsenal have long admired the 24-year-old.
His future in Spain remains uncertain after falling down the pecking order at Madrid.
Rodrygo was an unused substitute during Xabi Alonso’s team’s 1-0 victory over Osasuna, which has increased doubts about his role. Speaking to TBR Sport, Bailey said:
“Rodrygo didn’t get any minutes at all in the last match,” Bailey begins. “Let’s see what happens this weekend.”
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have placed a valuation of around £87million on the former Santos star.
The Spanish club are prepared to sanction his departure if the right offer arrives during the final days of the window.
Bailey added that Arsenal may consider a loan deal for the forward.
“Rodrygo to Arsenal still has some legs. This is why we reported earlier this week that Arsenal could be interested in a possible loan move, and I wouldn’t rule it out.”
Arsenal’s relationship with Madrid could help
The journalist also highlighted Arsenal’s previous dealings with the Spanish giants.
“They’ve got a good relationship with Madrid. They’ve done it before with [Martin] Odegaard. I certainly wouldn’t rule that out, especially if Rodrygo pushes in the last 10 days, which is quite possible.”
However, Arsenal are not the only side monitoring the situation. Manchester City are also keen, and Bailey believes the player could push for an exit.
“And I still wouldn’t 100% rule [Manchester] City out of the equation just yet. But if Rodrygo doesn’t get game time this weekend, he’s one of those players – like many others in the first two weeks of the season – who could move if he’s not used.
“If he doesn’t start this weekend and doesn’t get minutes, he’s really going to come into focus.”
Rodrygo scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Real Madrid last season.
