[Player Ratings] Red Star Belgrade 0-1 Arsenal: Wilshere shines again
Olivier Giroud scored a stunning overhead kick to seal a 1-0 win over Red Star Belgrade and put Arsenal on the verge of qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Here are my ratings:
Cech 7.5/10 | Made a couple of good saves in the first half and dealt with everything that came his way.
Debuchy 7/10 | A surprisingly solid evenings work from the forgotten Arsenal defender.
Holding 6.5/10 | Given a few more problems by the Belgrade attack than he would have liked.
Elneny 7/10 | An impressive display in an unfamiliar role for the Egyptian international.
Nelson 7/10 | Impressive going forward and did reasonable well defensively. Still think he’d be better utilised further forward.
Coquelin 6/10 | His touch was woeful, even by Coquelin’s standards. Put himself about but was nowhere near his best.
Willock 7/10 | Encouraging performance from the teenager. Kept calm in a hostile atmosphere.
Maitland-Niles 6.5/10 | Wasn’t able to impose himself in an unnatural position. Would like to have seen him in central midfield.
Walcott 6/10 | Went close to opening the scoring in the first half but was largely useless until he played his part in the winner.
Wilshere 8/10 | Another fine display from Jack. The only player who looked like he’d open things up and he did just that with a superb piece of play. If he can stay fit, he should replace Xhaka soon.
Giroud 7/10 | Was having an absolute mare until he scored a sensational winner. Sums Giroud up to be fair.

McGuane, Sheaf N/A | On too late
It was by no means vintage Arsenal which was understandable given the disjointed team but Giroud’s stunning winner means we’re on the verge of qualification to the knockout stages.
