Video: Red Star 0-1 Arsenal: Giroud stunner puts Gunners on verge of qualification
Olivier Giroud scored a stunning overhead kick to seal a 1-0 win over Red Star Belgrade and put Arsenal on the verge of qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
In truth, it was an entirely forgetful game as a weakened and disjointed Arsenal team struggled to find any rhythm while the hosts lacked any real quality.
There were only a few half chances to speak of and it looked as though we were heading for a dire 0-0 draw until a moment of magic secured the win.
Jack Wilshere started it all off with a lovely turn to take out to Belgrade players before playing a neat interchange with Theo Walcott that led to the winger’s heading finding Giroud. With his back to goal, the Frenchman acrobatically found the back of the net with a stunning overhead kick.
It was worthy of winning any game and we held out to ensure it secured the three points which moves us on to nine points in Group H and to within touching distance of the next phase.
