According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are considering a swoop to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Samu Omorodion this summer.

Widespread reports suggest that Mikel Arteta is wanting to strengthen his attacking options this summer and several big name strikers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent months.

Samu is the most recent No.9 to emerge as a target. The 19-year-old Atletico Madrid striker is presently on loan at Deportivo Alaves. In 29 league games with Alaves, he has scored eight goals and assisted one other. His statistics may not be headline-grabbing, but his overall game has shown great promise.

In his Breaking the Lines analysis, Sive Vishwa claims that the teenage striker “has the perfect technique and knowledge on escaping tight marking to meet the ball the first time, which makes it difficult to mark.

“His presence inside the penalty box is very dangerous and makes it difficult for opponents to keep him silent. He also can drag players out, creating spaces for his teammates.”

The Samu transfer battle

Such a striker is exactly what Arsenal needs to upgrade their underwhelming striking department. Fortunately, Caught Offside reports that Arteta is interested in signing the youngster this summer.

However, the Gunners face competition as the report says Liverpool and West Ham are also keen on the 19-year-old. West Ham are among the three clubs that have made an extra effort to contact his entourage to discuss their interests.

Caught Offside also notes that Atletico Madrid are willing to ‘pocket’ £52 million from the striker’s summer sale. West Ham appear to be one step ahead of Arsenal in the race, so the North Londoners will need to step up their interest if they want to sign Samu.

The teenager could be a shrewd summer striker signing, given that, as raw as he is, he has a goalscorer’s instinct in the box, a stride that scares opposing defenders when he presses, and his height makes him highly dangerous at set pieces. He’s also lethal when he has the ball; he’s a killer in the box, consistently unleashing shots that trouble the goalkeepers.

Football London previously stated Arsenal are hunting for a young top striker to upgrade their attack, and Samu may just what they’re looking for.
