Ambitious Arsenal want Gyokeres as part of £200m+ spending spree
Arsenal want at least three new signings this summer, including Viktor Gyokeres, as part of a record £200m+ spending spree, according to Football Transfers.
At the moment, all eyes are on Arsenal’s dedication to winning the Premier League title race against Manchester City and Liverpool. They are focused on winning their remaining games in the hope that their rivals slip-up.
It would be fantastic if they won the league, but regardless of whether they do or not, Football Transfers (FT) claims Arsenal are already planning a summer of heavy spending in the transfer market.
Arsenal up for a big summer
Mikel Arteta has spent the last few seasons developing a squad that he believes can win both the Premier League and Champions League. Last season, the club spent around £200 million on new recruits Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya.
Football Transfers suggest that the Gunners are ready to break that record spend this summer with Arteta targeting three or four new recruits.
The Gunners have already earned around £79 million from their Champions League exploits and will earn a bumper pay-day by finishing at least third in the Premier League.
With those funds, plus those raised from the sales of Kieran Tierney, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Thomas Partey, Cedric Soares, Nuno Tavares, and possibly Emile Smith Rowe, the Gunners will have ample money available to fund their ambitious summer transfer plans.
A new striker is on the agenda and FT says Viktor Gyokeres is Arsenal’s main target. The Swedish international has an £85m release clause, so he will take up a large chunk of their transfer budget, but it could be money well spent.
With 38 goals in all competitions this season, the Sporting Lisbon forward might be the clinical striker that Arsenal have missed in recent years. The Gunners have dropped silly points at times this season after not converting their chances, so a player like Gyokeres could be the answer to their problems.
Arsenal are also reportedly in the market for another central midfielder, winger and versatile defender, so it certainly sounds as though it’s going to be an exciting summer at the Emirates Stadium as Arteta continues to build a squad capable of competing on all fronts.
