Wenger offers Welbeck injury update + midfielder close to return

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck should be back inside three weeks while Tomas Rosicky is also close to making his comeback from injury.
Welbeck has been on the sidelines since suffering what was initially thought to be a minor knee injury during our 0-0 draw with Chelsea way back in April.
The injury proved to be far worse than first thought and Danny was eventually forced to have an operation in September which has ruled him out of the entire season so far.
However, the attacker is on the comeback trail and Arsene has now revealed that Welbeck should be back in contention for his first team return within three weeks.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third round clash with Sunderland, the boss also confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will miss the game due to his on-going hamstring problem but Mikel Arteta is available after playing for the under-21’s earlier this week.
Mikel has been plagued by calf problems for over a year but the ‘skipper’ is now expected to be in the squad that faces Sunderland tomorrow at the Emirates.
In a further boost, the boss revealed that Rosicky is also close to making his comeback from a knee injury that’s kept him out since June. It’s not clear exactly when the Czech international will be available but Arsene says he’s ‘not far away’.
So it looks like our injury problems are slowly subsiding and we’re finally getting some of our injured players back. Welbeck’s return in particular will be a major boost as he will offer another vital option in the final third during the second half of the season.
Here is what Arsene has been quoted as saying by journalists today:
At Colney: Wenger: "Arteta is available – he played 45 minutes on Tuesday. Sanchez is a bit short for tomorrow but he is not far."
