Arsenal stepping up their efforts to sign Aleksey Batrakov
Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Galatasaray midfielder Aleksey Batrakov, as per TEAMtalk.
After being impressed by the 21-year-old’s performances for Lokomotiv Moscow, Cimbom decided to purchase him last summer. In 36 appearances across all competitions, he made 27 goal contributions last season.
The youngster has enjoyed a stellar start at Rams Park Stadyumu this term, scoring five goals and registering three assists in 12 appearances across all competitions.
He even helped his side beat Stuttgart 2-0 in the Champions League by scoring both goals on Tuesday night. Having proven his worth in club football, Batrakov has secured his place in the Russian national team.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal sent scouts to watch Batrakov in action against Stuttgart and, after being impressed by his performances, they have stepped up their efforts to sign him.
However, the Gunners will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Manchester United and Chelsea also kept a close eye on his display in midweek.
Moreover, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are in this race. Apart from the Premier League clubs, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain have been monitoring his development closely.
Batrakov to Arsenal
The report state that, having recently signed Batrakov, Galatasaray have no intention of letting him leave in January, but he has a £50m release clause, which can be triggered next year.
Cimbom, on the other hand, are keen to hand him a fresh term with a salary hike to remove his release clause, with the Russian international’s existing deal set to run until 2031.
Batrakov is a creative midfielder by trait but is also comfortable on the flanks, and Mikel Arteta likes having versatile players. So, perhaps, Arsenal are interested in him.
The North London club currently have Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino as creative midfield options. Moreover, Max Dowman can provide cover in this area if needed. However, Eze has been featuring on the left flank this term, and Dowman is still very young and needs time to develop.
Batrakov is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
