Arsenal remain keen on signing Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, as per Caught Offside.
After joining the German side from their sister club Red Bull Salzburg last year, the 21-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Bundesliga last term, scoring 14 goals and notching up two assists in 17 starts.
After being impressed by the Slovenian’s displays for Leipzig last season, several big clubs around Europe expressed their interest in signing him with the Gunners reportedly among those.
However, the player eventually decided to stay at Leipzig. Now, he has had a slow start to this season, making 10 goal contributions in 17 appearances in all competitions.
Caught Offside report that Arsenal are interested in purchasing a new striker and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak is their primary target but they also have alternative options in their shortlist and Sesko in it.
Sesko to Arsenal
Having recently signed a contract extension with the German side, he – valued at around £42m by Transfermarkt – has a contract until 2029. So, he won’t be a cheap signing for Arsenal if they purchase him.
Sesko, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, has an excellent ball-striking power and can also finish off his chances. Following his recent emergence, he has already established himself as a key player for his nation and is already the fourth-most goal-scorer for his country.
The forward is deemed one of the most talented strikers in the world so he would be a great coup for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they hire him.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two centre-forward options Mikel Arteta currently has following Eddie Nketiah’s departure to Crystal Palace last summer. However, Havertz or Jesus aren’t prolific goal-scorers and the North London club definitely need more firepower in this area.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to sign Sesko to bolster the attacking department in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 5-1 victory over Sporting CP in the Champions League, Arsenal will take on West Ham in the Premier League this weekend.
