Arsenal lead race to sign Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee
According to the Gazetta dello Sport, as quoted by Sport Witness, Arsenal are leading the chase for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the summer window.
Zirkzee has gained attention for his performances with Bologna in Serie A this season. He has scored 12 goals and provided 7 assists in 35 appearances so far.
Those who have watched him describe him as a strong and technically skilled forward with a knack for both scoring and creating opportunities for his teammates.
According to Gazetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Arsenal are leading the race ahead of AC Milan and Juventus to sign the 22-year-old.
AC Milan intended to act quickly to secure the Dutchman before his other suitors became aware of their intentions. However, Juventus, spooked by Milan’s move, quickly entered the competition. As the two teams geared up to compete for the striker, Arsenal joined the fray, turning the transfer battle into a three-horse race.
Arsenal lead race
As per the report, all three clubs have held talks over a potential deal and the Gunners are now in pole position following the initial round of discussions.
Arsenal’s desperate search for a clinical striker this summer is no secret. Mikel Arteta has already started making plans to rejuvunate his attacking options with reports suggesting the Gunners are willing to listen to offers for Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian has scored just 4 league goals this season so Arsenal have decided they may cash-in if a suitable offer arrives. Zirkzee has been identified as a potential replacement and the report says Bologna will want at least £43m to sell the young forward.
Arsenal can easily afford that valuation and Zirkzee if cheaper than some of the other strikers being touted as targets. However, Gazetta dello Sport suggests Zirkzee may be interested in joining Juventus, which could complicate Arsenal’s swoop.
So, while the Gunners may be in pole position to agree a fee for the striker, they may need to convince him that they are the best next step in his career.
