Turkish midfielder claims he’s in talks with Arsenal over move
According to the Express, Stuttgart midfielder Berkay Ozcan claims he is in talks with Arsenal about a possible move but cast doubt over whether he’s ready to join such a big club.
Ozcan is a product of the Stuttgart youth system and has now racked up over 25 appearances since breaking in to the first team set-up last year.
The 19-year-old is considered one of the brightest young midfielders in German football and has already represented Turkey at under-21 level – having chosen them over Germany.
His impressive displays seem to have caught Arsene Wenger’s eye as Ozcan has now revealed that he and his agent are in talks with Arsenal about a potential move to the Emirates.
The youngster says we’ve been scouting him regularly for 2 years and he wants to play for Arsenal at some stage in his career, however, Ozcan suggests it might be too soon for him to join such a big club.
He’s quoted as saying by the Express:
“My agent and I are in talks with Arsenal. Arsenal have been scouting me for the past two years and send representatives to watch my games.
“I am not sure if now is the right time to join Arsenal, it may be a bit early for me.
“I want to prove myself here and keep developing first.
“Ultimately, Arsenal is the club I want to join in the future, god willing I will achieve my goal.”
Ozcan is good friends with Mesut Ozil but it looks unlikely they’ll end up being team-mates at Arsenal if the teenager does end up snubbing a potential move to north London.
I think it’s admirable that he knows he isn’t ready to join Arsenal and he’d prefer to continue his development in the first team at Stuttgart. The fact is, he wouldn’t get near our team just yet so would probably only play for the U23’s.
Hopefully we continue to monitor his progress and if he keeps improving, then perhaps we’ll see Ozcan join Arsenal at some point in the future when he’ll be ready to challenge for the first team.
