Arsenal to submit £28m bid after Wenger holds talks with star
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are ready to test Juventus’s resolve with an opening £28m bid for Miralem Pjanic after Arsene Wenger held talks with the midfielder about a move to north London.
The boss is clearly trying to rejuvenate his midfield options having brought in Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka in recent transfer windows while Jack Wilshere left the club on loan.
However, Arsene still hasn’t found a winning formula with Aaron Ramsey out of form and Santi Cazorla missing another huge part of the season through injury.
It looks like Wenger is now ready to spend big on another central midfielder as the Mirror are reporting that he’s held personal talks with Pjanic about a potential move to Arsenal.
The Bosnian international made his name at Roma before earning a big-money move to Juventus just last summer so the Serie A champions are highly unlikely to sell anytime soon.
However, the newspaper says that Wenger was encouraged by the 26-year-old’s response when asked about moving to the Emirates so the boss is ready to test the water with an opening £28m bid.
Given that Juve paid about £25m for Pjanic in the summer [and that figure was a very low buy-out clause], I think it’s safe to assume any £28m bid would be immediately rejected by the Italian giants.
However, there are rumours circulating that we may be willing to offer Juventus Aaron Ramsey in exchange which could prove to be a tempting proposition for them, if true.
Pjanic is a superb footballer and I’d love to see him join Arsenal but I think we’re either going to have a pay a lot more than £28m or give them a player like Ramsey in order to tempt Juve in to doing business.
And even if we could agree a deal, I’d suggest that any transfer would only happen at the end of the season and not this month.
