Team News: Wenger Confirms Injury Blow + Duo Return To Training
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Danny Welbeck will miss Sunday’s clash with West Brom but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mathieu Debuchy have returned to full training.
Welbeck has missed our last four games after suffering a knee injury in training last month but it was hoped he may recover in time to play some part in our final game of the season this weekend.
However, the boss has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning and confirmed that the 24-year-old will play no part against the Baggies.
It means Welbeck is now facing a race against time to get himself fit for next weeks FA Cup final and Arsene says the attacker may have to withdraw from the England squad if he doesn’t feature against Aston Villa at Wembley.
Wenger also revealed that The Ox has returned to full training after over two months out with hamstring and groin injuries.
The midfielder isn’t expected to be in contention to face West Brom but the boss says its “not impossible” he could be available for the cup final.
Debuchy is also in full training again after a hamstring injury. He’s expected be be a “bit short” for this weekend but could come back into contention against Villa next week.
Here is what the boss told reporters this morning:
