Arsenal make contact to sign Club Tijuana’s Gilberto Mora

Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Club Tijuana youngster Gilberto Mora, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners currently have Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze as options to deploy in the creative midfield position. Moreover, Ethan Nwaneri can provide cover in this position if needed.

However, Odegaard had fitness problems last term; as a result, he struggled to showcase his best, making only eight goal contributions in 36 appearances across all competitions.

After struggling to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up during the first half of last campaign, Nwaneri joined Olympique de Marseille on loan to play regularly and develop his career. But he failed to flourish in his career in Ligue 1.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are interested in Mora and have been monitoring his situation closely. They have even held talks with the player’s representatives over this deal.

However, the Gunners will have to overcome fierce competition to secure his service as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea are also in this race. The Red Devils are determined to purchase him and have sent scouts to watch him in action for Mexico in this World Cup.

Other than the English clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are also keen on him. However, Real Madrid are likely to be his next destination should he leave Mexico.

Mora to Arsenal

The 17-year-old isn’t thinking about leaving Club Tijuana just yet, and his current focus is to develop in his home country. He won’t turn 18 until October 2027, and he can’t move to a European club before reaching that age.

Mora is a creative midfielder by trait, but is also comfortable providing cover in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can be deployed on the flanks if needed.

He is a highly talented player and is considered a future superstar. So, Mora would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are planning to remain active this summer and are considering signing a new left-winger, centre-forward, and midfielder.
