Arsenal make approach to sign Bournemouth’s Scott
Arsenal have reportedly made an approach to sign AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, as per talkSPORT.
Despite revamping the midfield department by purchasing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi last summer, the Gunners are keen on buying a new midfielder this year.
A plethora of names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, with LOSC Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes being among them.
However, talkSPORT state that Arsenal are keen on Scott after being impressed by his performances last term and have already made an approach to secure his services.
Apart from the Gunners, Manchester United and Chelsea are also in this race. However, Bournemouth have made it known to Arsenal that they have no intention of letting him leave this summer.
The Cherries are keen on keeping hold of him by tying him down to a fresh term, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. However, if Marco Rose’s side are eventually forced to cash-in on him, they might demand around £80m.
Scott is a technically gifted box-to-box midfielder by trait, but is also efficient in the deep-lying playmaker position. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the creative midfield role if needed.
Scott to Arsenal
After moving to Vitality Stadium from Bristol City, the 22-year-old initially took time to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality before showing glimpses of his qualities last term.
In 39 appearances across all competitions, the youngster made five goal contributions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for next season’s Europa League, and this is going to be the Cherries’ first European appearance in the club’s history.
He is quick, strong, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Despite displaying promising performances last term, he unfortunately failed to secure his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England national team for this World Cup.
Still, he is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates club in this transfer window.
