Arsenal urged to sign Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford
Arsenal legend David Seaman has urged his former club to sign Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
After falling out with ex-United manager Ruben Amorim, the 28-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last summer. Although he played as a rotational option under Hansi Flick, he showed glimpses of his qualities.
In 26 starts across all competitions, he scored 14 goals and registered 11 assists. Moreover, the forward helped his side win La Liga and Supercopa de España last campaign.
After being impressed by his performances, Thomas Tuchel has included him in England’s World Cup squad, helping his country reach the last-16.
Despite Rashford’s resurgence, Barcelona decided not to make his loan deal permanent. So, he has returned to Old Trafford, but it has been suggested that the 20-time English champions are open to cashing-in on him.
Transfer expert David Ornstein has reported that Rashford has a £40m release clause in his current contract, which is set to run until 2028. Only Liverpool and Manchester City can’t purchase him by triggering the clause.
Now, during a recent interview (via Metro), Seaman has urged Arsenal to reinforce the frontline by purchasing Rashford as he is a ‘very dangerous’ player.
Rashford to Arsenal
Arsenal already have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, so the former goalkeeper claims that Mikel Arteta is likely to sell one of them if he signs the Man Utd star.
Seaman said:
“I would like that move because I still think Marcus Rashford has got a lot to offer. He’s still very dangerous when he’s on it. But then, straight away, my head then goes, “Who’s he gonna replace?” We’ve got [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Leandro] Trossard. If they sign Rashford, they’re probably going to get rid of one of those two. But he is a real talent.”
Arteta likes having versatile players, and Rashford can play multiple positions across the frontline. He is a left-winger by trait but is also comfortable on the opposite side. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the centre-forward position if needed.
The forward is a highly talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually listen to their former goalkeeper’s advice and make a move to buy Rashford this summer.
