Arsenal in battle to sign 23-year-old French international star

By on July 3, 2018

According to reports in France via the Mirror, Arsenal are facing a battle with Tottenham to sign unsettled Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer.

New head coach Unai Emery has been busy reshaping the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger having snapped up right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, goalkeeper Bernd Leno and centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

However, Emery also needs to overhaul our midfield options as Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere have left the club and although we’re being strongly linked with a move for Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira, a deal isn’t yet over the line and we could even be in the market for two central midfielders.

Rabiot has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and rumours have resurfaced this summer with the Mirror reporting in late May that Emery is ready to raid his former club to sign the talented midfielder.

Rabiot was a key player under Emery at PSG last season as he made 44 appearances to help win a domestic treble but despite his excellent form the 23-year-old was left out of the France World Cup squad by Didier Deschamps.

That snub has led to Rabiot questioning his future at the Parc des Princes and the Mirror suggest that Arsenal are ready to offer him a fresh start here in the Premier League.

However, we aren’t the only club in the running as the newspaper is citing reports coming from France Football that claims Tottenham are also eyeing Rabiot as they look for potential replacements for Mousa Dembele.

No offers have been put on the table as yet but the Mirror suggest that it will take a huge offer to tempt PSG in to a sale – although they may be forced to lower their expectations if the midfielder pushes for a move.

I’m a huge fan of Rabiot and think he’d be an excellent addition to our squad so I’d love to see us getting a deal agreed but that isn’t going to be easy so I’m not getting my hopes up just yet.
