Arsenal closely monitoring Dortmund star Jobe Bellingham ahead of summer move
Arsenal are closely monitoring Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham ahead of a potential move to the Emirates Stadium next summer, according to TEAMtalk.
After playing a major role in Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League, it quickly became apparent that the highly regarded youngster was likely to move on during the summer window.
Much like the route his older brother, Jude Bellingham, had taken, consistent game time at the highest level was considered vital for his continued growth, with Dortmund viewed as an ideal destination in a deal around his £25m Transfermarkt valuation.
Life in the Bundesliga proved challenging at first for the 20-year-old following his arrival at Signal Iduna Park, but his displays have improved considerably under Niko Kovač, turning him into a regular presence in midfield.
He has now started 18 of Dortmund’s last 20 matches, and his strong performances, especially in the second half of the season, are set to draw keen interest from several clubs ahead of next summer.
One of the clubs looking to sign Bellingham is Arsenal, as per TEAMtalk, which claims that the Premier League leaders are closely watching the 20-year-old ahead of a potential move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
Fierce battle
The 6ft 3in midfielder is highly regarded as an exciting prospect by several interested clubs, including the Gunners, who have been piqued by his recent displays for Dortmund, according to the report.
However, the North Londoners face significant competition from several clubs, with TEAMtalk adding that Manchester United have reignited their interest, while Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all expressed interest in the England U21 international.
Very few managers across Europe’s top five leagues can match the midfield depth currently at the disposal of Mikel Arteta following the additions of Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, and Eberechi Eze to an already established group containing Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Ødegaard, and academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri, who is currently on loan at Olympique de Marseille.
Even with that level of depth, there are still concerns surrounding the position due to Nørgaard’s age, Merino’s recovery from a long-term foot injury, and Ødegaard’s recurring fitness setbacks, all while uncertainty continues to grow regarding the Norwegian’s future.
With those factors in mind, Arsenal could benefit from targeting a younger midfielder with similarly high potential, making Bellingham an appealing option ahead of the summer transfer window.
